Awesome! Hate hurricanes...especially ones that come my way....but its cool to see them like this.

edit - remove - report - save #3 - by Anonymous Sep 10, 2008

One of them is a low pressure system off the coast of Iceland, not Hurricane Ike.

It always amazes me how something so dangerous can be so beautiful from a different point of view.

Maybe that's because we don't appreciate beauty as easily when we're afraid for our lives :o)

edit - remove - report - save #7 - by Anonymous Sep 10, 2008

Wow! its so amazing to see such a terrifying storm look so beautiful from space. I wish that I could be the one to actually see it for myself in space. It doesn't seem real as it would from ur own eyes.

None of these are photos of hurricane Ike. The were all taken from the following website.

http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2008/09/hurricanes_as_seen_from_orbit.html

edit - remove - report - save #9 - by Anonymous Sep 11, 2008

My mistake...the first two are of Ike...the others are not.

edit - remove - report - save #10 - by Haley (sRg2SqGvH.) - Sep 12, 2008

These pictures scare me half to death! The big hurricane eyes REALLY scare me a lot! ):

edit - remove - report - save #11 - by harris (VU12A4tlBs) - Sep 12, 2008

how do u know that these pictures ain't of ike? Why would the be on the NASA internet site if they weren't?

edit - remove - report - save #12 - by Anonymous Sep 12, 2008

Just FYI... only the first two or three are of Ike the rest are hurricanes from the past decade

edit - remove - report - save #13 - by Anonymous Sep 12, 2008

they are on the NASA website, with the many other hurricane names and dates posted underneath them, since removed here 'Isabel' claims most of the good images

edit - remove - report - save #18 - by Helba Sep 13, 2008

That is out there scary.Good luck Texas.

edit - remove - report - save #19 - by Anonymous Sep 14, 2008

Just think how scary it was being in it. That is def. something I do not ever want to do again!! I heard that it was bigger than Katrina. The last I heard on the radio, 29 counties in Texas were declared federal disaster area. Thanks for the pics though. They are gorgeous.

edit - remove - report - save #20 - by Anonymous Sep 15, 2008

Yeah I saw some of these picks on CNN's website shown as old hurricanes. A day before Ike hit! Some of these are of past storms!

edit - remove - report - save #21 - by Anonymous Sep 15, 2008

We lost a dog and a fence. If you were in the storm or if you are from the area and you evacuated though, just thank God you are still alive and reading this, some are not. As long as you are still breathing, things could always have been worse.

edit - remove - report - save #22 - by Anonymous Sep 15, 2008

One more thing... We are Americans, and Texans to boot. We will rebuild. Hell, some of us will be playing on the beach next weekend.

edit - remove - report - save #23 - by Anonymous Sep 16, 2008

well we made it and so far we are looking like we can fix things and get on with our lives unlike our neighbors who came to houston and never left i hope this one sent them all back home to were they belong which is not here riding the governments free ride

edit - remove - report - save #24 - by Efren Bassig Sep 16, 2008

Terrific picture, amazing shot!

edit - remove - report - save #25 - by Anonymous Sep 16, 2008

I was hit by Ike and let me tell you, it's crazy over here right now. Tree after tree are down. They've been working to clear the roads and remove trees off of houses. Thank God, we weren't as hard hit as the people in Houston, east of here, or the Galveston area. Now it's really about neighbors helping neighbors and that's definitely happening. We have an amazing community here. God bless Texas!

edit - remove - report - save #34 - by Anonymous Sep 19, 2008

Not all of these are Huricane Ike, notice the counterclockwise ones (Northern Hemisphere) and the clockwise ones (Southern Hemisphere)

edit - remove - report - save #35 - by Anonymous Sep 20, 2008

this is unbelievable!!! tht this is what destroyed my childerns trampoline lol i got very little damage to my house but this is AMAZING I LOVE IT

edit - remove - report - save #37 - by Anonymous Sep 22, 2008

I live in Texas City (Galveston County), these pics make that storm look mild compared to actually being in it. 112 mile an hour winds are not fun. It was awful...and to see the destruction left behind is devastating to say the least.

edit - remove - report - save #38 - by Anonymous Sep 23, 2008

It's quite interesting that some of you know about hurricanes, it,s educational.Oh,this is how you spell it :VALIABLE.{no offense}.Also,I,m so thankful that where I live doesn,t have an record of hurricanes.

edit - remove - report - save #39 - by Anonymous Sep 23, 2008

Hey,same person,see,made a mistake on my punctuation on the words:"I'm" and "doesn't".

edit - remove - report - save #40 - by JAYLAN S. Sep 23, 2008

WOWWWWW it's so amazing how some thing that seems so big to us like hurricane ike can almost take up half the earth next time you should think that hurricane ike or any hurricane can almost take up half the earth.

edit - remove - report - save #41 - by Anonymous Sep 24, 2008

These photos are so unique.I think the most beautiful one is the 14th one.I was paying attention the the similarity between all of them, they all have swirling hole made of clouds{?}.

edit - remove - report - save #42 - by Mark Latham Sep 24, 2008

I'm an avid space fan and backpacker. These photos remind me of what my neighbor said to me one time, "Looks like rain, sir" or as Lightning McQueen said in the hit movie CARS, "I create feelings in others that they themselves don't understand." Nice posts sir!

edit - remove - report - save #43 - by Anonymous Sep 25, 2008

I think the word you all are looking for is valuable...boy I tell you...people are funny.....loving the pictures!!

edit - remove - report - save #44 - by Anonymous Sep 25, 2008

The physical features of these photos are interesting yet horror. Also it makes you want to observe them by actually being there.

Love you lots bro and all my familia in houston

edit - remove - report - save #47 - by Anonymous Sep 30, 2008

It does not matter if the pictures are of Ike or other storms, it is a terrible thing to live through. In 2004 my husband and I lived through 4 one right after the other. The damage and fright and distruction is unreal. Yes the pictures are beautiful to look at but the result is not a thing of beauty.

edit - remove - report - save #48 - by Anonymous Oct 14, 2008

don't want to ever see another hurricane again! That Ike left Houstonians without power for weeks. Sucks to live midevil. Learned a lot though...still over 300 missing. You should google Ike and Boliver peninsula....they got hit extremely bad...

edit - remove - report - save #49 - by Anonymous Oct 17, 2008

We stayed in Bmt. for Ike. It was a terrible and awesome night full of horrors and beauty alike. My friends in Bridge City are bulldozing homes. Kids need school supplies. Some students live in churches. A friend that has a beach house on Emerald Beach is the only one still standing, lost the bottom floor. We have a bit of eaves damage. The devastion for others is total loss and bankruptcy without help. Please give if you can. We are still recovering from 2005 Rita and now Ike.

edit - remove - report - save #50 - by Anonymous Nov 3, 2008
